As the person responsible for fund management, Tomohiro Anzai oversees the full range of activities in the biotech and HealthTech sectors, from sourcing opportunities and establishing companies to supporting their growth and realizing investment returns. He has more than 10 years of experience providing hands-on management support, including establishing portfolio companies as their Representative Director. Before joining FTI, he worked at Arthur D. Little (Japan), providing management consulting to companies in Japan and overseas. His work covered a wide range of management issues, including corporate and R&D strategies for biotech businesses such as pharmaceutical and diagnostics manufacturers, manufacturers of equipment and reagents for research and development, and food manufacturers.

He has served as a Project Associate Professor of the Translational Research (TR) Initiative at the University of Tokyo, a Visiting Associate Professor at Kyoto University’s Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS), and a part-time lecturer at the University of Tokyo Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. In 2012, he served in the Medical Innovation Office of the Cabinet Secretariat of the Japanese Government. He has also served on government committees, including the Study Group for Promoting Dialogue between Biotech Ventures and Investors.

He received the Venture Capitalist Encouragement Award at the Japan Venture Award 2021 and ranked second on Forbes JAPAN’s list of Japan’s Most Influential Venture Investors 2021. He is a member of the Industry-Academia Collaboration Committee of the Japan Venture Capital Association.

Tomohiro graduated from the Department of Biological Sciences in the Faculty of Science at the University of Tokyo and completed the doctoral program at its Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, earning a PhD in Life Sciences. He also completed the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at MIT Sloan School of Management.
