RegCell Secures $44 Million Series A Financing to Advance Treg Cell Therapies for Autoimmune Diseases

      FTI portfolio company, RegCell (Headquarters: Emeryville, CA; CEO: Michael McCullar), a biotechnology company developing regulatory T cell (Treg) therapies to restore immune tolerance and treat autoimmune diseases, has closed a $44 million Series A financing. Combined with a $22 million non-dilutive award from Japan’s Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED), RegCell has secured approximately $66 million in new funding.  The Series A was led by Playground Global, with participation from Global Brain, Mitsui Chemicals, LG Technology Ventures, Alumni Ventures, and Medical Incubator Japan, alongside existing investors including FTI, The University of Tokyo Edge Capital Partners, Osaka University Venture Capital, and Kyoto University Innovation Capital. FTI first invested in RegCell as a co-lead of the company’s Seed extension round in November 2024. Koji Yasuda, Principal at FTI continues to serve as an Outside Director on RegCell’s BoD. Proceeds will support clinical advancement including an Investigational New Drug (IND) submission, development of a  second-generation epigenetic reprogramming platform, and support expansion of the clinical pipeline through an additional Phase 2 proof-of-concept study.
