Chiome Bioscience was established to commercialize research conducted at RIKEN and is a RIKEN-certified venture. Its innovative technology uses cultured cells to rapidly generate monoclonal antibodies against antigens for which conventional methods have difficulty obtaining antibodies. It supplies lead antibodies for medicines to major companies. It formed a capital alliance with Olympus in 2007 and a business partnership with Chugai Pharmaceutical to generate lead antibodies in 2008. In 2010, it licensed technology to Fujirebio for diagnostic applications. It received the Bio-Venture Award of the Invitrogen-Nature Biotechnology Awards and an Excellence Award of the Tokyo Venture Technology Awards in 2006, and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award of the Japan Bio-Venture Awards in 2009.
