CellSeed was established to commercialize research conducted at Tokyo Women’s Medical University. Using cell sheet engineering, it develops regenerative medical products known as cell sheet medicines by culturing and harvesting cells and tissues in sheets to create transplantable tissue. It completed a clinical trial in France for a regenerated cornea using autologous oral mucosa, which was authorized for humanitarian use in France in 2009. It formed capital alliances with Olympus and Dai Nippon Printing in 2009. It received the Tokyo Venture Technology Award in 2002 and Excellence Awards in the Small and Medium Enterprise Excellent New Technology and New Product Awards in 2007 and 2008.
